Who's on First
(Soap Opera Digest - February 8, 2005)
In September 2001, Hendrickson arrived in Pine Valley for a three-month stint as rough-and-tumble Frankie, who captured Bianca's heart before being offed by her psycho Aunt Vanessa. In February 2002, the actress was brought back by popular demand - as Frankie's heretofore-unknown twin, Maggie.
Was it hard for you to say good-bye to your first role, Frankie? "I didn't really have time; I had to say 'Hi' [to Maggie] so quickly! But whenever I talk about Frankie, I say, 'May she rest in peace.' I always acknowledge her sad passing."
When you started as Maggie, how did you go about differentiating her from Frankie? "Oh, my gosh, I was so afraid about that. I was trying to go for something completely different, but the problem was that the writers left it so ambiguous; the character was such a blank slate. I just decided to make her lighter, prettier [laughs]. I kept the humor; I always like to play a little bit of humor. And I was playing her straight - at first [laughs]! So I went for heterosexual, pretty, funny. And smarter!"
How did you feel your first day as Maggie? "I felt...like I was Frankie! My scenes were with Eden, whose character thought I was Frankie. I suppose I wasn't done with Frankie yet."
Do you feel cheated because you never got to do the whole simultaneous dual-role thing? "I wouldn't say cheated, but I think it would have been a great opportunity to test my acting skills. I watch David Canary [Adam/Stuart] do it all the time, and I think he's so brilliant. It would be fun to try it for a day, even if we did a dream sequence where Frankie came back. It would be interesting to work with myself!"
What do you think Frankie would think about Bianca's feelings for Maggie? "I think Frankie would have put up a good fight. That would have been a great triangle."
