Elizabeth Hendrickson: Why I Left
(Soap Opera Weekly - February 15, 2005)
It was a one-two punch for AMC fans to hear that both Elizabeth Hendrickson and Eden Riegel (Maggie & Bianca) will leave the show later this month.
"I've been wanting to do something new," explains Hendrickson. "I know this is the right thing for me, at the right time. I'm ready to see what happens next. I want to venture off and explore other parts of the business that interest me."
Hendrickson joined the show in 2001 as Frankie Stone but the character was killed off a few months later. Thanks to her chemistry with Riegel (and her popularity with the fans), the show brought her back in 2002 as Frankie's twin sister, Maggie.
"I thought I would be on the show for a year, a year-and-a-half tops," says Hendrickson. Instead, she became part of the popular Bianca and Maggie (BAM!) coupling. "I'm so thankful to my fans, who really advocated for me," she smiles.
Hendrickson and Riegel informed producers that they wanted to leave the show at the same time, and AMC complied. Both Maggie and Bianca will leave Pine Valley on Feb. 24 after a truly explosive week.
"I'm happy we're leaving together," smiles Hendrickson. "I love everyone on the show and have great relationships with them, but Eden was a part of everything for me there. Maggie's main tie has always been to Bianca."
As outlined by Riegel in the last issue, Hendrickson is moving to Los Angeles, too. "I've never lived outside of New York before!" she gasps. "It's refreshing even though it's scary. It's going to be a huge change. But I'm ready for a change."
